Hi, I’m Lucy.

I am an educator focused on cultivating lifelong literacy and passion for reading and writing

My Approach

Collaborative

I believe that the best learning happens in a community of learners. I work with students to create a safe environment where they are comfortable working with their peers and sharing in the learning experience. This not only enhances their learning but also teaches them the real-world skills of collaboration and communication.

I also practice what I preach to my students. I love to learn from my students and peers. I value the diverse perspectives of my fellow teachers and seek to collaborate and learn with them.

Standards Based

I believe that the study of English is the study of communication. We study how others communicate with us and how to effectively communicate with others. These are important skills that are essential for students to learn to benefit their lives both in and outside of school.

Thus, I implement the practice of standards based grading as it allows for students to focus on skill building and helps them to focus on becoming lifelong learners.

Don’t just take it from me…

“One of Lucy’s most impressive qualities is her comfortable demeanor and authentic approach to teaching. She has a natural ability to connect lessons to the real world, making learning both engaging and relevant for her students."

“I love that this entire class period mostly required students to work collaboratively. . . students were constantly DOING, they were creating and directing the learning through completing the activities.”

-Mandy Luszeck, University Supervisor
